Protecting your blonde this winter

Protecting your blonde this winter

Winter is magical — but for blondes, it can be brutal. Cold air, central heating, wool scarves, and damp hair are a perfect storm for breakage, dullness, and knots. If you invest in keeping your blonde fresh your winter routine will need a seasonal upgrade!

Rule no.1 - Never leave the house with wet hair.

Blonde hair, especially lightened hair — is more porous. That means it absorbs water easily… and loses it just as quickly. When you step outside with damp hair in winter:

  • The cold air causes the hair shaft to contract

  • Moisture inside the strand expands and weakens the cuticle

  • Hair becomes more prone to snapping and split ends

  • Colour can look duller over time

If you air-dry, make sure your hair is fully dry before exposing it to cold air. Ideally:

    • Rough dry roots first

    • Use a nozzle attachment to smooth the cuticle

    • Finish with a cool shot to seal shine

Even 10 minutes of proper drying makes a huge difference in preventing damage this winter!

Rule no.2 is using the right products for your hair.

Winter isn’t the time to go minimal with your routine. Blonde hair needs hydration and protection.

✔ Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner like Hydrate and Conquer from original mineral.

Look for:

  • Sulfate-free formulas

  • Bond-building ingredients

  • Lightweight but nourishing moisture

✔ Purple mask (In Moderation) like original minerals clean tones in tone platinum

Purple shampoo keeps brassiness at bay — but overuse in winter can dry hair out.
Stick to once a week and always follow with a deep conditioner.

✔ Leave-In Conditioner like my favourite Know Knott.

This is non-negotiable in winter. A good leave-in:

  • Reduces static

  • Protects from heat

  • Adds slip to prevent scarf friction

  • Locks in moisture

✔ Lightweight Hair Oil on the Ends like Frizzy Logic Serum.

Just 1–2 drops on dry ends:

  • Seals the cuticle

  • Prevents fraying

  • Adds shine to dull winter blonde

Avoid heavy oils at the root — you want shine, not flat winter hair.

Tip no.3

Book Regular Glosses (If You’re Coloured)

If your blonde is salon-maintained, winter is when tone fades fastest due to dryness and heating.

A gloss:

  • Restores shine

  • Refreshes tone

  • Seals the cuticle

  • Makes hair feel healthier instantly

Think of it as a winter top-up coat for your colour
